I mean personally speaking it's been tough, rigorous, challenging but I learnt a lot so no regrets. I think time factor was a major issue that is how do we manage everything in right balance. Coming to my department computer programming is a prerequisite, so please learn that. Also be prepared to work hard in an efficient and systematic manner in order to excel.

I applied to 7 colleges but just got through Penn state, hence I think I am lucky as my gre was 1270,good recommendations,1 year work experience, internships(2).I took coaching from my jamboree for my gre and admission counseling as well. Visa interview was centered around managing funds, why this university etc. My travel experience was good I flew by Indian Airlines to Newyork and then took a bus to state college.

Even though the university is sponsored by state the fees is very high and especially for students like me managing my own fees it's difficult. Funding in the department is pretty scarce .

The courses are good, I had a penchant to become a petroleum engineer and I am glad I am working my way towards that. My knowledge towards the field is almost naive so the courses helped me build my fundamentals. I had around 10 hours of lecture every week, not to forget that I was helped a lot by professors, tutors to cope up with the new field. Facilities are too good and staff is very helpful.

Campus facilities are excellent in terms of transportation, food, computer labs etc. Nearest cities are Philadelphia, Newyork, Pittsburgh and people here are very kind, helpful and always ready to mingle. My rent is 150$/month which is cheap enough and I was working at the dinning commons as a part time. Student union keeps organizing meets, get tog ethers but I have never been part of them, due to my course work but I heard from my friends they are pretty good in organizing and getting people together.

I left my previous job because I thought some years down the line I would have been stagnated. Masters should and will definitely widen my career prospects. Placements have been down this year because of global recession but the situation should definitely get better as time progresses and we complete our degree's.
